Pelletco receives ACTION award and locates to the Newburyport CleanTech Center

Plans Market Expansion for Innovative BioMass Fuel Source

September 26, 2012 (Fall River, MA; Orono, ME; and Newburyport, MA) – ACTION, the Association of Cleantech Incubators of New England, awarded Pelletco space in one of its 13 incubators across New England. Pelletco is using the award to expand its operations to the Newburyport CleanTech Center. Pelletco received the award as a semi-finalist in the Cleantech Open, Northeast region. Pelletco provides locally sourced and sustainable alternative energy solutions utilizing patented biomass fuel technology. Their advanced pellet technology burns substantially cleaner than traditional petroleum, propane, electrical and even wood pellets. “With businesses and institutions in the Northeast spending over $9B each year on oil heat, we hope to replace some of that oil usage with local sustainable biomass, especially in Northern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire,” said James Knight, president of Pelletco. “Newburyport is an ideal location for us to expand our market presence.”

The Newburyport CleanTech Center (NCTC) is a non-profit clean technology business incubator and accelerator and a member of ACTION. “We’re delighted to have Pelletco as a new tenant,” said Robert O’Brien president of the Newburyport CleanTech Center. “Pelletco is a great example of how we can partner with tenant companies to add value and generate new opportunities.” The NCTC will provide Pelletco with a physical presence in their new markets and will leverage their network of like-minded companies to expand their sales.

ACTION, in partnership with the Fraunhofer CSE ULaunch program, has provided fully subsidized incubation awards to 18 of the 2012 Cleantech Open, Northeast region semi-finalist teams. This will enable them to accelerate the growth of their businesses. The offer includes work space at more than 13 locations around New England, and access to business resources for cleantech entrepreneurs. “It is great that we are in a position to assist these companies,” said Michael Ryan, president of ACTION. “Each of them represents leading innovation in the clean technology industry.”

The ACTION-Pelletco-Newburyport CleanTech Center collaboration is a clear example of the thriving clean technology ecosystem throughout New England. This ecosystem is connecting entrepreneurs with incubators having unique capabilities and geographic proximity throughout the region.
